Top speed
Hey guys Im wondering what my top speed is in my 1979 f250 custom 4x4
Ive never pushed it past 55 so im wondering.
Heres the details:
400 from a 77 lincoln, 60k, 179 hp
4 speed NP435
Unsure of gears in the rear end, PO swapped the stock gears for more speed driving on the highway
33" bfgoodrichs
Aerodynamic as a refrigerator

Ive been up to 80. The question is not "can it go faster? " but rather "should it go faster? ". At 80mph it all starts feeling very floaty and like you do have much control. With some suspension work im sure it would be fine but I didn't feel comfortable at all going that fast in my truck wich has almost the exact same setup

The fastest I've had my 78 f150 4x4 with the 351m np435/np205 was well over 100. I was on the Pittsburgh parkway headed to work and decided to open her up. I had the needle wrapped to the backside of the mile odometer of the speedo gauge. My guess was about 110-115. It handled that speed multiple times and flawlessly. Not that I'm condoning that behavior mind you. And that was in this truck.
Yes that ladder rack was on the truck at the time as well.

79 f100 302/c6 tranny. 3.25 rear gears
I've had her wrap the speedometer around all the way back to 0 multiple times. Reaches it flawlessly and with ease. Takes a flat road and some time of course. I'm not sure how fast that is. I don't recommend doing that. I was 18 at the time and we all know how that age is.
