'72 RANCHERO 429
I have a chance to buy a '72 Ranchero with what is said to be a factory 429. I am having problems finding a value on this vehicle and even less luck getting "429" production #'s. I have not seen this up close or have a VIN yet.
Any idea what it is worth? Or 429 production?
Thanks in advance.

Some info here, maybe some links to drill down on 429s.

I have a 73 Ranchero 500 with the 400cid 2V/ C6 Trans.
It is all original except for aftermarket wheels and the AC is factory spec. and works great. The engine has been professionally rebuilt to factory specs and it runs like a swiss watch.
I have seen values on 72 and later Ranchero's climb even in this economy.
The picture of the 72 looks like a keeper, but is it factory under the hood and does the AC and everything else work? I would have no problem paying $6,000 for it, but its always what the buyer will pay. If this 72 has no rust problems at all; it is probably worth more. It also looks like some front suspension work has been done; big-block Ranchero's are hard on the front springs :-)
Hope you can get it at a descent price.

What steered you away from it? or Was it altered under the hood or was the guy asking $20k for it?
I am a Ford man, but I do love those older Trans Am's; my neighbor down the street has a black and gold 79' TA and he is basically storing it for his son that's in the Army. What kind of price would you think its worth if his son would part with it??
70 Nova SS, Whoa---now you're talking some money now!
Can you send me a pic of your Trans Am that's in paint now?
Thanks,
