1979 351 air cleaner

PO did a hack job to the back of my air cleaner near the back by the egr filter. Cut three slits behind the carb. Why would you do this? Also where could I find or does anyone have an oem air cleaner for sale? I've got a 79 F100 custom 351 bone stock with 130,000 original miles purchased from the original owner down here in central tx.

Welcome to FTE.

My '79s air cleaner housing actually split in several places. It appeared to be cut, but it wasn't. I have no idea why it split. I went to NAPA and got one of those little chrome air cleaner housings and put it on. Mine had a knock-out and plastic fitting for the PCV valve line.

Where abouts are you in central Texas?

9D693 and 9D692 go in the same hole.
9D692 is a plastic elbow that clips in the air cleaner housing. The tube from the charcoal canister attaches to it when the truck was equipped with evaporative emissions system. When it was't equipped with evap. emissions the 9D693 plug is installed to block off the hole.
9D692 was available as a replacement part, 9D693 was only available with the air cleaner assembly, it wasn't sold over the counter.

I'm not all that smart. The reason I know what it is, is because I have an air cleaner sitting in my closet with the block off plug in the side.
