I posted this in the superduty forum thought I might get some good advise here too

Well, both systems have the glow plugs. The big difference is one has a Glow Plug Relay and the other has the Glow Plug Control Module. But here is a link to wood-n-things side by side diagram of both systems. https://sites.google.com/site/woodnt...ow-plug-system I'm thinking you will have to replace the PCM as well. Why do you feel you need to change it?

thanks so much
the reason is the calif controller is real expensive I want another option just in case I get stranded and need to install a federal relay
so I need to do more research on pin 8 in he pcm and see if it is just a - trigger that tells if a glow plug is bad or if it is a positive 12v of a variable voltage sensor
thanks again for the info
this is my first powerstroke i bought this truck to do a conversion on but I will postpone that for some time as I am pleasantly surprised with its performance and economy doesn't have the bottom end torque like I am used to but in a 2wd that's a good thing I don't get wheel spin which is good since its a 2wd and I am in south Dakota and everything is glazed over with Ice
thanks white buffalo I see you are in Sioux falls that is where I bought the truck at

Well cool! I didn't catch that you were in South Dakota.....feel free to stop by if you have any problems. Try the salvage yards for a used GPCM if you really want a spare. But I don't recall ever having to replace one. They are on the Cali models and all Excursions, not too hard to find.
Edit: I thought I was the only one in SD with a 2WD Powerstroke! LOL

well I have 3 4x4 pickups I still love my 2wd's I have been looking for exactly what I found and its fresh from California so basically rust free
a little higher mileage than I would like but the price was right and it was what I wanted
I have a friend of mine by Brookings that has an 02 with almost 500k on it and it is completely wore out engine and trans have never been touched ball joints front wheel bearings and brakes is all he ever did
thanks again

I'm the opposite of you I think. I'd rather have a GPCM and ditch the GPR. We have 2 Excursions with OE GPCM's, one at 265,000 and the other at 460,000. I'm second relay in 196,000. Also I would love for the Glow Plug Test function on my DP Infinity to work, and to get a code when I have a glow plug malfunction.
