DUI Distributors

Anyone here have experience intalling a DUI Distributor? I just picked one up on the cheap for my 300 and was wondering if it is a pain in the butt to wire and whether I should replace the gear with a brass gear. Do I need to do anything to the oil pump shaft for it to work? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

From what I've heard, DUI is pretty close to (if not) the top of the line. All it needs is a 12v key source, so it's 1 wire. You can remove your coil and ignition module, since it's all integrated into the unit.
It also has upgraded gears, so you don't need to mess with those either.

I can't see why you'd need to do anything with the oil pump shaft.

I know a DUI setup is on my want list.

Thanks for the info. I do have a question for you on another issue. What did you do as far a the throttle linkage bracket goes when you updated your truck from a 1 bbl to a 4 bbl?

One thing you might look into with the DUI is contacting them about recurving it. DUI distributors are custom curved to your specific engine for the best performance. If you got one someone else had, it may be tuned for theirs, not yours. They should be able to recurve it for you.

For the throttle linkage, the stock bracket will no longer work at all, since it bolts to the stock intake.

I originally built my own out of some scrap metal, but recently bought myself the Lokar SRK-4000, which worked really well.

I can't speak to the DUI but I put one of their Duraspark distributors in my Bronco and it's cherry. No wiggle in the shaft and spins freely. It's not stand alone like the DUI but gives me the option of using a multi-spark CD ignition in the future. Or not, it runs sweet as candy with the DSII.

I, too, use the same distributor BaronVonAutomatic mentioned and it is coupled with a MSD ignition box. I've had it for several years and am pleased [it starts and runs well]!

I pulled my dizzy from the j/y, a DS2, and took it to a shop with a Sun dizzy machine. They rebuilt it with a bronze gear, bearings replaced the bushing in the bottom, and they recurved it to my cam, for $175. I coupled it with an MSD box and keep a GM 4pin on the fender with wire in case the MSD fails.

Got the distributor back yesterday after having it recurved, got it all put together this morning and it truly was a one wire plug and play. Throttle response is so much better than before. I'll let you know how I feel about it after a couple of days driving it.

That's awesome. I know I really (really) want one of those.

Keep us posted on how it drives!

So, I have a DUI in the mail headed my way, and was doing a search on google for a good 12v source. This is one of the threads that came up.

Monte1go, would you mind sharing where you connected your 12 key-on source to?
Thanks!

Have you regapped your spark plugs to .054 and upgraded your wires to handle the extra voltage.
Abandoned, I spliced mine into the hot wire to the old distributor. Im an amatuer and the hardest part of the install was just finding TDC.

Doesn't the hot wire to the old distributor have a resistor in it?

I am picking up some Autolite Platinums (which they recommend) and purchased their Livewires. Can't wait.

Check the hot wire going to the DSII module I >think< it's 12v. Or you could run a wire directly from your battery and use the coil hot to trigger a relay.

I'll check around the wire to the DSII. What about on the ignition switch?

Otherwise, a relay sounds like it could work well. Just trying to avoid one more electronic component that could fizzle.

That's awesome AB. I too am looking to purchase one soon. I went the performance distributors website do they give you a form to fill out so they customize after you checkout?
