Multi-Vehicle ATF Myths

A good read about multi-vehicle atf claims & why top treats can't do what they claim. Why "Licensed" fluids are our tranny's best bet.

That's some interesting info but complaining with no real benefit its tough reading, all that page flipping etc.

Makes selecting the proper ATF more important than ever.

Thanks for sharing this info PP!

Ok good feedback & to hear you found the info useful. I too found the Lubes & Greases pages kinda aggravating to navigate, but we don't have any control over that, so we have to take it as its put up & grit our teeth. lol

Yeah, if the only thing I find wrong about the article is its navigation then I appear kinda petty huh?

Great stuff though!

No not petty, you just like me are probably kinda persnickety about some things, so if the publisher is offering up good info that they judge worthy of publication for dissemination, because the info needs to be widely known, then they need to put it up such that its easy to access & not frustrate & turn folks off trying to acquire it.

Bump: More multi-vehicle tranny fluid info.
SAE paper done on tests performed on various recipes of tranny fluids & how they faired. Comparison of OEM Automatic Transmission Fluids in Industry Standard Tests If we click on the sample report in the right column, we can sorta get an idea of the variations in recipe formulations & begin to see how its not possible to have one recipe meet All parameters of the Specified tranny fluid, without compromise. So if we're going to opt for a multi-vehicle fluid, whose recipe fitness for our tranny we likely have to guess at, choose wisely grasshopper, as we'll have to warranty that decision/action & deal with any untoward results that could prove more expensive than the cost difference between a licensed fluid & the multi-vehicle fluid.

I just noticed that Castrol Import/Multi-Vehicle ATF is no longer approved for Ford MerconV applications! This is a pretty recent change I think. Read those labels!

Because I'm not one to read labels as carefully as I should as a time-saving step I simply ordered Motorcraft XT-5 from my dealer, all 15 quarts of it.

Not only is there no doubt its suitable I saved almost three fricking dollars a quart that way. Was shocked it was that much less expensive at the stealership.

Is that win-win for me?

Yeah its a win-win, I was just joking about all that.

I was pointing out how in this one instance the dealer was significantly less expensive for the exact same item. It's such a rare thing I thought it was good giving at least my local dealer a compliment.

Guess it also shows doesn't hurt to check around a bit.

Roger on checking pricing, I found that my local Motorcraft Distributor would beat WalMart prices on brand name licensed fluids & filters, so I drive a few extra miles to give them my business. Motorcraft pricing has shot up in the last few years though, so their pricing isn't as competitive as it once was.
Post up your Dealers name & town, so others can take advantage of his offerings.
