Vibration on low gears

I have a 2000 Ford F-150 with approx. 214,000 miles on it. Recently, I've noticed that it vibrates at very low idling and start-up speeds. Can someone please give me some (hopefully less expensive) issues to look into?

Welcome to the forum.

I would start with the easy stuff like how old are the plugs? MAF clean?

Thanks for your response LxMan1! I recently had a tune up done a few months ago, so the plugs should be good. In reviewing my paperwork from the shop at the time of the tune-up, they noted that there was a mis-fire on #2 at that point. I wonder if there is something wrong with the housing assembly.

I would start by checking the plugs and coils. When a coil or two goes bad it can cause a serious vibration that is typically felt at low loads such as cruising at freeway speeds. I have seen a truck with two bad coils feel like it was going to rattle itself apart at cruising speeds. I have heard people incorrectly diagnose this as water in the fuel tank. After that I would probably move toward the rear diff and the tranny and drivetrain components such as u joints.

Orbust, thank you for responding to my inquiry! Although I've taken my truck in for a reading of the codes on the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, they never mentioned anything about the coils. I'm gonna take it in and ask the shop to specifically look at the coils.

NP, Also... might want to have them check torque converter as well. Another possibility when it comes to low load vibration.
