Since you weren't specific on a "Diesel working" video, here's one I took at a local diesel "gathering" of a guy flogging his Duramax because someone gave him an old set of tires to use up... he did this at least 6 times that night and somehow the truck is still going even-though his turbo and down-pipe got hot enough it started melting the plastic push pins holding the insulation to the firewall...

Just an update. I've got about 8k on this thing since the swap. The two 16" electric fans are doing great at keeping it cool even when pulling a trailer in stop and go traffic in the 90's. Daily mpg's is similar to the 6.0, but towing mileage is a lot better. Still haven't hooked up the AC or cruise yet either.

Bump/Tag/Subscribe.

I'm interested in the cruise, fans and A/C. My 6.0 just melted down, so I'm looking at a 12 valve ZF-5 swap.

I'd really like to be able to use the factory 6.0 fan.

Not really related to the swap, just changed up the front of the truck after doing some deer hunting with it...

Painted the new bumper to match the lower two tone of the truck and replaced the fog lights with a single 20" LED light.

Looking good, like the led bar i stead of the fogs. I currently have a dead 6.0 Excursion that I've been thinking about putting a cummins in. Truck has been sitting for 2 years, I even purchased an 04 2500 dodge runner to use as a donor but had to sell it due to personal problems. Anyways, a question I have is who did you use to tune the trans? Sounds like it but did you get it shifting right with the 6.0 converter? Would you go the tune your 5r's tcm route again or something else?

Thanks in advance for any info.

If I did it again, I would still go with tuning the Ford PCM. That way I still get the tow/haul function.

The things I would change
1. Go with a lower stall torque converter
2. Keep the 6.0 crank sensor (and use a custom mount) and use it with the swap kit's tone ring, the tach sensor provided is garbage.

Thanks, just the advice I need. I'll be starting this project next month with an 04 motor.

What kit did you use? Options? Etc. I'm looking at pulling a 6.0 from a 2004 f350 and want to put a 12 valve into it. Any advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated.I'd be using it to haul horse trailers and wood regularly, as well as driving on the interstate and towing other vehicles. Working on a farm down dirt roads, going hunting in the mountains.

I feel bad for saying this, but I chickened out. I'm looking for a buildable long block to fix the truck. I'm still going to build a Fummins, but I'm going to use a 79 king cab.

The kit I used was from Diesel Conversion Specialists.

If you're on a budget, I would keep the Dodge trans, preferably a manual. You're going to pay more than 2k to keep the 5r110 trans.

If you want an auto and have the cash, the 5r110 is hard to beat though.

In all honesty, the swap is pretty easy if you buy the kits. Just follow the instructions and do some wrenching. With the engine mounts and adapter plates everything pretty much bolts in.

Great thread, lots of good info.

Just picked up a 2000 v10 excursion with what looks like a locked up engine. Gonna stick a 6bt in it over the course of next year, definitely gonna be coming back to this thread for info!

Does Diesel Conversion Specialists have a kit to keep the original dodge nv4500?
