6.0 to 12v Cummins swap

Any IDI engine is very power limited due to the type of the engine. The 5.9 Cummins (6bt) and the smaller 4bt are popular because they are reliable, parts are cheap, they are easy to turn up power wise and they are super simple to work on. As much as I hate to say it, the 5.9 is like the Chevy 350 in that regard. Also, companies are making adapter plates to mate a Cummins to about anything.
I think a big pull of people going to the 12v is also the lack of complexity. Lets face it, modern diesels are nothing like what they used to be. They are running a fine line to meet emissions requirements, they have a ton of sensors, coolers, and parts are expensive. Diesels are no longer the low maintenance work horse. I don't care if its a Ford, Chevy, or even new Cummins they all have issues due to complexity now. Trust me, in my job, I deal with Cat, Cummins, Deere, ect on the industrial and AG side. The stricter the emissions stuff gets the worse it's gonna be. I'm kind of curious what new stuff I'll see at ConExpo coming up in a couple weeks related to this.

Thanks for the info. I agree about the older Diesel engines, I have an '84 f250 and it just runs and runs and runs, at this point I think it's paying me to drive it.
I was curious if any of these older diesels are being used or if it's just the Cummins. Seems like the Cummins has an edge because there are kits to get the job done.

That's the dilemma. My stock torque converter will bolt up and only had 7k on it. The Cummins makes more low end torque though, so to take advantage of it most recommend a lower stall converter. The company doing my trans tuning however says they can tune the trans shifting with the stock converter to lock up and work well...

Looks good Kert. Can't wait to see the final stages and I hope you put at least one or two vids of it running when all said is done.
