broke track bar mount again ???

Back in sep of 2011, on our sequoia trip i heard a clunking noise when ever i turned.

found out the the track bar mount on the axle had broken off and had to drive home like that. kinda of an all over the road drive.

I had a friend weld it and all was good. Today i had to pick a a very heavy load of cinder blocks for my brother in law. He has a trailer.

I loaded the truck bed full and pulled a 12X8 trailer with 4' side rails filled to the top.

At that point i found out the trailer did not have working brakes so it was a very slow drive. got half way home to hear a grinding sound at the front. Lost a brake pad !! Damn.

got home and jacked the truck up to surface the rotors and install new pad's.
I don't think i got all that mileage out of this set of pad's ? Vato zone pad's

Long story short.. There it was again. the mount had broken off !
It looks to be a bad weld job but when he welded it. it looked like a very good weld. He is a welder..

Im going to have to re weld and gusset it some how.

Any idea's of why this would brake off again ??
I don't see any crack's in the leaf springs to let it move around that much.

I think your on the right track with adding fresh metal and or gussets. your metal has losts its elasticity, reweld failed parts or weld on top of welds wont help this.if it fails after good reinforcements then you have something else going on.

Same thing happened on my excursion. We had to gusset it in the bottom with a piece of rod stock, and also gusset over the top with some bar stock. So far it has held the past year. Good luck.

Had this happen to me too about a year ago. I had my friend weld it for me. He welds on water towers and windmills. So far its holding well. Only cost me a dinner at b-dubs!
