No heat

For a while I have had no heat and I thought it was the blend door that is the problem. But I have adjusted the blend door so it should be closed and the air that comes out is cold. It's not as cold as the outside air but it doesn't feel warm at all. Is there something else I should be looking at?

Did you flush the heater core to make sure it's not plugged?

Usually this means low coolant, air in the system or failing water pump. Could be plugged heater core but more likely one of the three I mentioned

Coolant is fine, I check it frequently. I don't think the water pump is bad, I have a digital temp gauge and it is not any warmer or cooler than normal. I'll look at the core, might be plugged or have air.

Detatch the heater core lines and force some water through the core in both directions until it flows clear. I have seen some nasty looking gunk come out of a heater core when doing this and it always makes a difference in the amount of heat you get in the cab.

A test for a clogged heater core is once the engine is at operating temp put your hand on the two heater core lines to see if there is any temperature difference, there should not be a big difference, one maybe slightly cooler but both should feel warm.

Today I checked the heater core for clogs by removing the hoses. No clogs, I was able to blow through the core with no problems, and the coolant was the same color as the coolant in the radiator. So it's got to be the blend door, I guess. I'm sick of not having heat so I'm gonna figure this out.

Check the fitting that comes out of the engine block. I've seen those pretty much plugged with deposits. plugged = no flow, no flow = no heat.

Do you mean the fitting where the ECT is? I've data logged the ECT and it reads the same as my digital gauge. But I'll check the temp of the lines When I warm up the motor next time. That'll tell me if the coolant is moving in that area, which I think it is.

I'm not real familiar with that motor, but there should be a line coming off the water pump, and one coming off the intake IIRC, I'd physically check them both.

Its really a pretty simple system, if the blend door is working properly, then it almost has to be a low/no flow problem.

Well now that the ****ing Broncos played the worst game of the year and the season is over, I'll have more time to work on the truck. I'll have this fixed by week's end and get my water/meth injection by month's end.

I have friends in Denver. I'm not a Seahawk fan, but nonetheless I'm going to leave them alone for a couple of days lol...

Seems it was the blend door. The mounting post where the temp select cable mounts to behind the glove box broke and that left the door open a little. I fixed it with a zip tie for now, that should get me through the season and then I'll replace it.

Zip ties, duct tape, WD-40, and a pair of pliers should be able to fix just about anything, lol
