6v to 8v 49f1

I just purchased a 49f1 with an 8v system, been this way for many years and works fine. This system is all new to me has anyone ever head of changing 6v to 8v, good, bad, indifferent?

Welcome to FTE!

Is it positive ground? I think some folks just put an 8 volt battery into a 6 volt vehicle for better starting power.

I use a Optima Redtop 6 volt battery which has sufficient cold cranking amps to turn the flathead any time.

I remember that being a conversion done years ago . I was talking to my Dad , in the 80's , about my 53 Pontiac . He said they use to put in an 8 - 9 volt battery ? and adjust the regulator to get better starts and such . Sadly he has long passed , So I can't ask him the specifics . I do remember him stating it was an easy Mod . Cadillac Battery I think he said ? That was GM to GM . But sounds easy enough . I just went 12 volt myself . The 12 volt batteries last longer than 6 volt batteries I was able to get at the time .

I was told the regulator was "tweeked" to accept the 8v conversion. All other electrical stuff remained the same, bulbs etc.

That is what I remember . Just a small adjustment to the regulator , new battery , only a few volts change . A 6 volt bulb will work fine at 8 volts . It will shine BRIGHT for a bit at 12

I have a 8V in my 52, positive ground. Only change I know of was to adjust the regulator. It works very well.
