It was gonna be on the fourth of july - but I thought we should get a new one up for each year.

~Easier and better, I think.

(Provided I get up off my lazy retired backside)

Well DANG ME!
(But I don't think anybody is gonna HANG me)

~ I've been UA from here for a while, but I've had a few IRL things going on as usual. Downed trees, ice storms, all of that trivial trash.

On the front burner, in another month or two I'm expecting a notice from the Navy Department all about how I have been transferred from the Inactive Fleet Reserve to complete retirement. I wonder what that package is going to look like?

I wonder if there are going to be "Thank You's" from various officials, a certificate, and all of that?

And if OBAMA bottom lined a retirement congrats letter - wouldn't that look damned-all strange next to my original retirement kudos letter from GEORGE W. ???

I think if a picture of Obama came with it, I'd be inclined to hang it upside down...

I got mine a few years back, and can't really tell you what was in it. I think it was just a letter.

Considering the current administration - I wouldn't be suprised if it was an e-mail to save trees...

Be alert and monitor any care you get from a provider so you don't end up neglected:

A fatal wait: Veterans languish and die on a VA hospital's secret list - CNN.com

This stuff has happened before and will happen again. If it happens to you, escalate up the chain of command and especially via your elected representatives (not a political issue, but they can get results).

Veterans forums are good places to compare medical care experiences and look for information specific to vets, such as burn pit exposure and diseases endemic to the Middle East, A-stan, or other "exotic" locations.

ALL active duty G.I.s and vets should be absolutely fanatical about keeping hard copies of their medical records throughout and after their careers. Records get lost and you may not ever recover them.

All vets should warn the newer generation that once you are OUT of the service whatever you thought were the rules of engagement are different. Not necessarily bad as many including self have gotten excellent care,
but VA-speak is not MilSpeak is not Civilian Medical Speak so YOU get to be a translator if you have any sense at all.

Prepare, for even if you don't need help you may one day help your brothers and sisters in arms.

Is DFAS late paying vets all of a sudden?

I was making an online transaction, and my cash wasn't posted in my account!

Mine is in and can be used. Using Navy Federal. Never had a problem. I know several banks don't post to account until 10am. Navy Federal is 1 am.
