Upgrades for Kentucky Truck Plant

Ford announced an $80 million investment in our truck plant. This money will improve the paint and body area of the plant along with expansion to capacity. Last year they produced 353,662 units, 272,521 Super Duties and 78,500 Expeditions and Navigators. Production will increase to 400,000 annual units and will add 350 jobs to the 4000 already employed there. The Super Duty will be overhauled late next year and is expected to contain more aluminum. The five millionth Super Duty will be built sometime this year.

Great info here guys, thx for sharing......... looks like Ford is making money...

QUOTE....
Ford also noted that its Kentucky plant will build the five-millionth Super Duty truck sometime this year. Earlier in the week the company posted $8.6 billion in profit for 2013, one of its best years yet.

Wish our CEO would leave and our company hire Fords CEO. I think Microsoft is trying to get him onboard. Well, I think Ford has been listening to the voice of the customer for the most part, and trying to build some good stuff, like our engines, which I am still pretty impressed with for an in house unit. More aluminum and composites = lighter weight and if they leave power as is or likely will be more, then towing capacity will go up with fuel mileage. As some point though towing 20,000 lb 5th wheels may get dangerous without training. Mike

I filled out a survey after buying my truck a year a go; I stated that how disappointed I was with the paint on my 2008 and that my 2013 wasn’t any better. Shortly after to my surprise was a message on my answering machine stating that it was the head of the Kentucky paint department and he wished I’d call him back about my comments on the survey. I called him back and my main concerns were about orange peel and the clear coat wasn’t tuff and scratched easily. He said that they were getting complaints and his purpose was to gather information so that they could get capital (20 million) for improvements to the paint department. One improvement is that he wanted a two stage clear coat process instead of the one stage application. He said that they use the two stage process on higher end vehicles and want to do the same to the Superduty. A told that is funny, my wife’s Ford vehicle cost half as much as my 2013 F350. He said that it won’t help my truck but he is hoping the information he gets will at least get the plant upgraded. Good for him, someone cares. Maybe my next black ford truck won’t scratch when I wash it.

I fully agree that Ford's paint simply sucks, never seen anything so bad and full of contaminants. Glad you got a call back, I'm surprised but not at all in a bad way just wished they'd say "we will paint them like Mercedes", yeah right. My 2012 F250 and our 2014 Explorer Sports paint is simply pitiful. I'll keep my F250 but the explorer may have seen better days if we find the AMG we want.

I filled out an online survey and got a call back also... I was complaining of thin/soft paint on my 13... I was hoping maybe they would do something on this truck - but maybe the next (whenever that happens) will be a better paint job...
