1949 F1 Tires and rims

I'm in the process of restoring my Dad's '49 F1. I'm going to keep the brakes original and would like to use some balloon tires with chrome reversed rims. And maybe lower it a couple of inches. Does anyone have any suggestions on what sized tires/rims to use and how to lower it?
Thanks. . .

I think the simplest thing most people do to lower it would be to remove some leaf springs from the spring packs.

Tire size and wheel selection is a personal thing but I like 15s on these trucks because they look somewhat original. A 15x6 or 7 on the front and a 15x7 or 8 on the rear looks good in my eye. A 225/75 R15 all around will allow rotation if you go with the same sized wheels all around...
