You'll need a tool like AE or the Torque app for your phone and a Bluetooth OBDII adapter. Parts store readers won't work if you have a PSD.

They must have a different type of code reader than other Autozones, because the typical code reader found at Autozones can only read the generic factory codes on the 7.3L PSD, not the diesel specific codes.

Where are you located, someone here might be close and has AE to give you some data.

I live in Clinton, Md. I called my local Autozone. They claim they can pull codes off of any vehicle.

I seriously doubt they know the limitations of their scan tool when it comes to the 7.3L PSD.

The "ordinary" scan tools normally found at places like Autozone don't have the ability to read the diesel codes because the 7.3L PSD is not completely OBD II compliant.

Not mentioned, but if you have a tuner, you should turn it back to stock to get a proper code reading.

I believe you can buy an ACTRON reader. They are supposed to be able to read OBDII and CAN compliant codes.

stewart_H,

They were not able to pull the codes. The reader couldn't establish the communication link. I've ordered a blue tooth scan tool. Hopefully I'll be able to pull the codes with that.

So I went past another Autozone last night and they pulled a code. The code is listed below.
P0471 Exhaust Back Pressure

Should I start by swapping out the EBP sensor? Is there a write up on the procedure?

Before doing that, try to compare the EBP,MAP and BARO readings. Di you know anyone with Torque or AE?
