2wd to 4wd body swap whos done it?

Does the body from a f150 2wd directly swap over onto a f150 4wd frame? I understand the differences in the f250s over the years with the highboy frames but are all years 73-79 f150 the same 2wd and 4wd? What if anything has to be addressed. I'm seeing alot of nice 2wds pop up localy and it was gears turning in my head. Any help?

Besides cutting the trans tunnel out & swaping to the 4x4 steering column is about all I can think of

I sort of did. On paper it would appear that way, but I really just made a truck out of about 5 different ones.

I think for a regular cab, any 150 or 250 2wd would be an easy swap on to a 150 4wd frame.

brian1080 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
My Scab cab came from a 2wd auto (now 4x4 manual). All I had to do was cut out the floor and drill holes for the screws that hold the tunnel cover on. Everything else is the same.

73-77 versus 78/79 you could possible have some wiring differences in the dash harness for different dash clusters, gauges versus idiot lights, I think....

But over all any 73-79 2wd body will go right on a 4wd chassis with what has been mentioned about the steering column/shifter. A 79 body 2wd to a 79 4wd chassis can be done in a weekend with a few friends.

Also a 73-74 or 5?? you can have a cab mounted gas tank/wiring and then 75 to 76 ish ?? a exposed gas cap in the bed, and a 77.5 to a 79 you will have one and possible have 2 gas filler necks with a gas flap. Something to consider, but not a deal breaker by no means.

No worries it have been done by alot of folks on here, so you will have tons of help.

Are you a Illinois FTE chapter member yet, you can always get to know your local Ford folks and request a FTE member helping hand with the swap.
