I installed a trailer hitch today . it is for a 1973 2006 chevy pickup . Teardropy turned me on to it . All I needed was two lengths of 2x2 tubing 10 inches long , for a spacer between frame and hitch . This will locate the hitch just below the stock bumper . $115 with shipping on e-bay . It is well made and will pull 6.000 lbs with 600 tongue weight . Looks like it will fit any of our trucks .

 

With the 2 spacers, did you weld it in or bolt it on?

Pics please... You needed the 2"x2"X10" to clear the stock bumper location? so with snugger bumper brackets that bring the bumper up 2" and in 3" I shouldn't need any spacers

 

I was wondering the same thing. Or if a hitch that had a little more drop would work as well?

 

I bolted it in , and I have pictures , but have lost the icon on insert them into my post . Any ideals why I can't post pictures .

I have tried to post pictures of my trailer hitch without success. I give up! (and yes I have read all the different methods provided on the forum).

 

Looking at the pics, on the safety side, depending on what you might be towing and the tongue wt. I wonder if the 2x2 tubing should be longer-towards the spring. This would spread the weight over a larger area.

 

 

Thanks to Chris for posting these pictures that I emailed to him.
As you can see I fabricated my own SS bumper irons which tuck the bumper in and up. I wanted the receiver just under and basically flush with the bumper. I fabricated the spacer that is between the bottom of the frame and the mounting flange of the hitch. The hitch is one of the adjustable width type made for motor homes. It was the closest that I could find for the right drop and to allow a flush mount and allow exhaust to exit over the hitch and then turn down under the bumper.

 

I managed 2 out of 3!
