TPS long question

TPS long question
92 Ford F-150 5.8 engine. Does the pigtail connection on the TPS go towards the front of the engine or towards the back. Chilton manual shows towards the front and the person who put mine on had it towards the front, but when I scanned codes last year it showed the TPS was out of range. When I took it off, I found the spring was broke in the TPS, so I replace the sensor it seemed to fit in the notches of the throttle body better when the connection is towards the back. I'm still having trouble with the shifting out of second when I take off. I can let the old TPS dangle on the engine and it shifts fine, just in out of passing grear to much. Can anyone tell me exactly how the TPS goes on, so I can elimante if this is the problem? I'm not picking up any codes on my little scanner now. If anyone has put on a TPS, I'd appreciate excatly how your suppose install the TPS and wheather the connection goes in front, towards the back, do you twist the little spring inside the TPS to make it fit on the throttle body?
Is there a web site that explains or shows pictures?
Thanks
Ron
