Did my little brothers 76 the same day we did my 04.5 cummins. We both did wheels, front and rear bumpers. He also did the rocker panels on his truck and front grille. I can post a picture of mine, but you probably don't want to see that. Pics of his will have to wait til tomorrow.

My neighbor at my shop is the local plastidip guy. It turns out looking like a smooth rhino liner. Not really my bag, but it doesn't look horrible. ....worst case is you can peel it off if you don't like it.

I forgot I did the door pillars between the front and rear doors as well. Patching is pretty easy, there is a youtube video how to do it, I'll see if I can find it.

His truck needs major body work so it does look very smooth but that plastidip really lays flat with no issues at all

Why not do some prep work and shoot singe stage automotive paint? At minimum you can just scuff and shoot. Find a buddy with an HVLP spray gun if you don't have one yourself to use.

I have used PPG's OMNI single stage enamel paint on a few gun stocks and they turned out really really nice. The OMNI brand is a lower quality paint by todays standards, but back in the 70's when our dents were made this stuff was top shelf. There was no such thing as clear coat/ base coat(or plastidip).

In my opinion you will end up with a much higher quality finish and one that will last for decades to come. An angry girlfriend can peel off the entire "paint job" on your truck with one long fingernail.

yeah i have to weigh my costs. my bed will be 100% fresh to paint once i get my tailgate and rollpan figured out.
i have a brand new fender and a new paint code... higher price paint but i didnt really want to repaint my cab yet.
i really dont want to have mix matching going on so im considering the dip for now, i dont have a barn to paint in right now

+1, I would never use the stuff on a body, just paint and you'll be happier with it. It does work good on dashpads though.
