Super Duty 1, Hyundai Elantra zero!

Well my new 2014 F350XL in no longer a virgin. I was rear ended this afternoon by a 21 year old girl driving with a suspended license driving her moms Hyundai Elantra. It was a hit and run but a witness followed her and was able to get her info. and the police found her and the car and escorted her back to the accident scene! She is lucky that I let off the brake just before impact otherwise her car would not have been drive-able. She would have been real unlucky if I had my hitch installed in my receiver! The front of her car was pretty blasted but the Super Duty fared okay for the most part. The impact bent the bracket that holds the trailer wiring connectors and my rear bumper looks like it rotated down a bit and is nor sitting level. But does not have scratch on it and its not bent or twisted. If it warms a bit I'll loosen the bumper mount bolts and line it back up. I asked her why couldn't you have hit my 2002 with 170,000 on it? Did you have to wait till I got my new one to give me a packing. I guess if that's the worse that happens to this truck all will be good. Drive a big truck and drive safe!

glad that it all worked out in the end.. I have an 8 inch drop hitch.. if someone rear ends me they are not getting off of it without being pulled off and it is gonna tear some things up when they do... LOL.. about how fast was she going.. thats pretty good that there isnt a scratch and only a little deflection in the bumper.. pretty sturdy if you ask me.. but she was driving a little car compared to the boheameth super duty.

Thanks for asking but I am fine so that is good. The speed wasn't that high maybe 30 mph or so. It was one of those deals where the traffic was heavy so people are slowing and then accelerating. I think a few cars up someone slowed quick to take the same right hand turn were I was headed so everyone was back in the slow down quick mode again. She definitely hit me on the throttle though, she was not on the brakes. A situation were you need to be paying attention and not on the Zombie dumb phone or whatever. I don't have photos of her car just a bunch of the smashed plastic that I picked up out of the road. I plan to go loosen and realign my bumper today. That will make things right in my Super Duty world again.
Have a good weekend.

Take your truck in for inspection. You never know if there is any hidden damage or not. My better half was rear-ended in her Mountaineer. Didn't see any damage but it appeared to me that the bumper was pushed a little.

She gets a new bumper now.

They walk among us...

Glad you're ok. I would also get the truck looked at, just to be sure no hidden damage. Did her Mom have insurance?

My idiot neighbor hit my wife's parked Toyota 4 Runner that was parked on the street in front of our house 2 weeks ago. Street was solid ice, and this zombie was cruising at full speed and thought he would just whip it right into his driveway. Nope. Impaled his used and beat up Suburban on my wife's 4 Runner.

Had to get a tow truck on his Suburban, and my SD with a strap on the 4 Runner to get them apart. I was just dragging his Suburban with the 4 Runner trying to separate them.

He said it was icy and there was nothing he could do!

They walk among us...

Wife just got her 4 Runner back yesterday.

I've posted this before, but it's applicable to this thread too. I scored a two-for on mine!

I agree with Slim and Scott, you want to get that thing looked at by a body shop.

No way they could have been doing 30 MPH and have driven away. Here's what a 30 MPH crash looks like:

Would have been much worse for the Elantra in this situation because your bumper was higher. You'd be in trouble as well, a 30 MPH would be likely to bend your frame.

And I don't see anything funny about someone's pride and joy all smashed up. Much less two of them.

Lighten man. I was playing to the title of the thread. Nobody got hurt and my SD drove away with $23.00 in damage; a new step pad for my bumper.

Nah, I get your point. I was only asserting that I don't find it funny like some others did, that's all.

Tom...All i meant by "funny" was how wrecked the Envoy/Honda were & after u pull them apart u wouldn't be able to tell the SD was even in an accident
Unfortunately i now personally understand how terrible an accident can be, I just happily turned 35 on the 24th & normally i feel as if B-Day's aren't that great anymore but considering on the 6th i was involved in my "first ever accident" which happened to be a Rollover (hauling 8,200 gal of Ethanol in a 10,000 gal non-baffled bottle) & somehow i wasn't injured at all.....Trust me i get it !!!

Thanks for understanding my point

Wow, just a couple of days ago? That must have been scary, I never hauled much hazmat but I've seen and heard stories about what can happen to a gasoline tanker in a wreck.
