To get the engine high enough you may have to pull the upper intake as it will hit the back of the firewall. At least that's what the repair manual says. Also you have to reach up and unbolt the pick up tube for the oil pump and let it drop in the pan before you can remove the pan.Let me know how it goes as I will be changing mine soon also.

You may have to drop the Y pipe out of the way. I just changed my oil pan gasket two weeks ago. After disconnecting the Y pipe from the exhaust manifolds, the exhaust pipe just sat on the transmission cross member. It did not drop the Y pipe out of the way enough. I supported the tranny and removed the cross member so the exhaust pipe would drop to the ground. After doing that and following the procedure in the haynes manual, the pan slid right out.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jun-02 AT 10:34 AM (EST)]I have changed the oil pan on my 93 F150 302 2wd And did not want to mess with the exhaust It looked like it was pretty rusty and could cause me more trouble. So heres what you do,remove the fan and radiator next remove the nuts connecting trans to crossmember , remove screws for the engine mounts then, jack the engine up as high as you can you may even consider removing the plenum I didnt on my but in hindsight it may have been a good idea, remove all the screws from the oil pan then disconnect the oil pump, oil pan should slip right out the front. Dont know if 4wd is different dont think so. Hope this helps good luck!!!

P.S. I hear its at least $500 job in the shop so the aggrevation is worth it.

Thanks for the tips guys.
The reason for the removal is that I holed the #8 piston. Zero compression and a leakdown blows out the dipstick. My brother-in-law wants to try to do a redneck repair and unbolt the #8 rod and piston, push it out the top of the block, run a hone through that cylinder and put a new piston back in. He said he's done it before so we'll see. I'll let him know the oil pan isn't an easy off/on piece to see if he still wants to do it.
Thanks again.
