2015 Eco-Boost 3.5 Power Bump Figures?
#46
I don't see the purpose of the Eco-Diesel, You can get a Ram with the Hemi, Pull more with it, haul more, a heck of a lot quicker, cheaper to operate, about $3 to $5K cheaper to buy and only lose a few MPG. How many years would you have to drive the truck to realize any savings at all? And this is a one manufacturer comparison, let's not even get into the competition. I just don't see it working. I think their "Pentastar" 6 will actually tow as much, or real close anyway.

It's both. Ram trucks was supposed to use the 5.0L Cummins v8, but then they decided to go with their VM Motori 3.0L v6 instead. Cummins then had to look for other buyers. Toyota and Nissan both took an interest. Both have had mules running around with that engine.

I would think both Toyota and Nissan would market these as "stump pullers" be interesting to see. I hope they don't follow Chryslers lead with Eco-Diesel, that setup to me is kinda pointless IMHO. If I am correct, the 3.0L VM Motori was basically a Euro. diesel that's been used for passenger vehicles across the pond for sometime now. Wasn't it a joint venture between GM and Fiat?

Technically, yes, as GM owns 50% of VM Motori. The 3.0L v6 was supposedly developed for Maserati first, but found its way into other vehicles. It's supposed to be a well built engine, even the military was looking at using it.

Forgive me for getting off topic, but have you seen where GM's Holden division has went before the Australian Gov't asking for a bailout? (and was turned down!!) Here we go again....

Depending what news source you go to, it is a bad deal. The talking heads at GM say it was the pre bankruptcy gang. Not us. However no one has left. So something is up. They apologized but not taking responsibility. Just Bing GM lawsuit or ignition fires, or something to that subject. The woman who now heads up GM, name escapes me, but she has been there for some 30 yrs, and said this is the first she heard about it. Really? UAW at its best.

If the military is looking at it I would bet it is way over priced and a total piece of garbage. A good rule of thumb in my experience is if the military likes it run as far from it as you can

Produced by the lowest bidder, or someone's brother in law......at great expense to the taxpayer.

Also lets not forget that Ford has had their own ignition/fire related issues as well. And I don't recall anyone's heads rolling as a result of those. Ford has had many many fire/electrical related issues over the years. So lets not be so quick to point fingers here. For those that don't know about or forget about Fords ignition related issues. They involved 82 or 83 thru 93 I think Ford cars and trucks. Usually upon start up or shut down, but also while driving. I don't remember the exact cause, but it started with a puff of smoke out of the ignition lock cylinder and then very quickly the vehicle was engulfed into flames. My point is sometimes things happen. And as much as I love Fords they're NOT perfect either.
