Can AE successfully diagnose a bad injector?

Ok so i think my dad has an injector or 2 going out and i would like to find out. Ive heard, just through some internet research that the power balance test on AE isnt that effective. I wouldnt mind buying AE since i have a 7.3 as well but this would be a big factor as to whether i can read these injectors or not. Thanks

It would help if you do not have any other means of reading ford codes or live data. What codes are you getting and what is the truck doing?

Pull the soft or pending codes and see which injectors are at fault.

Most of the time a failing injector is either the spools or FICM.

A DIY'R can polish the spools and re-ring them and be good to go.

Low FICM voltage means it's time for it to be Ed'ified FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair

I have a scangauge 2 on it for about 3 weeks. The FICM was new about 2 years ago (before he bought it) and still tests good. Also around the same time ford scanned it and found #8 to not be unhealthy. All this happened before i bought the truck. It runs real rough when first starting, even fairly rough once plugged in. Also seems to have a slight miss until really warm. 5-40 oil hasent helped a real noticeable amount. Maybe try some archoil 9100? I havent checked if the SC2 will pull any codes or not, i will check that soon though.

SG2 blows at pulling codes, especially pending codes.

Sounds like you could try the Archoil, or take the time to polish the spools.

On a 6.0, Yes you can easily identify a bad injector with an AE. Matter of fact, I just did it Sunday....

A guy came over to my buddy's place with a suspected bad injector. I hooked up the AE and using the Actuation menu, I was able to shut off one injector at a time and found that Injector #4 was definitely bad and #8 was on it's way out.

-You can also pull up the Power Balance graph to see which injectors are failing.

-To further confirm things, you can run a KOER test and it too will confim which injectors are bad.

Since purchasing my AE in 2010 from Clay, it's paid for itself several times over and saved others a trip to the shop.

Archoil is worth a shot especially since it actually fixes stiction and cleans the problem up instead of putting a bandaid on it.

You're confused. Archoil is the bandaid, polishing the spools fixes it.

I would have to do some research on polishing the spool valves but it seems like quite a bit of work to me. Maybe it's worth it but would all the injectors need the cleaning? I know there were 2 that were replaced before We bought it and didnt have many miles on after that

If the codes point to one bank of cylinders over another, say #1 and #7 then I would polish the 4 spools on the passenger bank.

To get an idea of what's going on:

I have AE, and it is a great tool.
It can read all codes, even if the MIL light is not on. It gives you the ability to test each injector, and you can turn each one on or off.
But I will confirm that the power balance test is inaccurate, at least based on my experience. But overall, I like it and it does what you need it to do.
