I forget the part numbers but you are correct there is a ball part that bolts to the frame rail and has bronze bushings around it and the L bracket slides into it that attaches to the clutch shaft on the transmission.

Which part do you need? I've got extras of both you can have.

Sounds like you are missing 01Y-7507, equalizer shaft bracket. You likely also need the bushing that goes in the end of the shaft while you're in there.
Ford Clutch Equalizer Frame Bracket & Ball - 01Y-7507 - C&G Ford Parts
That part doesn't look exactly like what the parts manual shows.

Yes, it's there. Inside the end of the equalizer, there is a spring, two bushing halves, and a felt seal washer.

Bushing - C2TZ-7517-A (replacements are now either brass or plastic)
Spring - 01A-7545
Felt - 01A-7539-A
