Door Interchangeability

I have an 89 F350 Lariat that has power windows and locks. I found a nice set of doors from a 95 F150 that also has power windows and locks. I know the 95 doors will bolt on to my 89 truck however I'm not sure about the wiring and I'm looking for a little info. Does anyone know if the wiring / plugs are the same??? I'd like to let the 95 door panels in place because I like the power window switch location much better than my 89.

Doubt the wiring would work... the 92+ window switches have a connector that is specific to the shape of their window switch bases.

I intend to let all of the wiring inside the door alone. My concern is the large plug in the door jamb area. It connects to a wiring harness behind the kick panels.

Cut the plug off of the '89 door and splice it on to the '95 door.

That's your worse case scenario. If the colors aren't the same you could look at what goes where on each harness to show you what to do.

I'm OK with that as long as all of the wire colors are the same from one year to the next.

You're going to have a dead light in the '95 panel unless you run a wire from your dome light to it. The plugs are at least that much different. 5 minutes with a multimeter will tell you exactly what all the wires are.

OK, so it sounds like the plugs are different as well as the wire color codes.

Swap the wiring. It is a 5 minute job per door

Don't be a HACK and cut anything

Agree with swapping the wiring. Didn't realize it disconnected in the kick panels, so no need to cut anything.

And also agree on the 92+ window switches being in a much better location than the bricknose trucks.

Ok, if the bricknose connector half will mate with the OBS (92+) door connector, then just swap the pins around in the 95 door connector to mate with the appropriate wires on your truck's harness.

If the connector halves DON'T mate up, then you'll have to use your existing door side connector, and rewire it onto the 95's door harness.

Daniel5.0 is saying that since the OBS doors have a light in them, you'll have to run a wire up to your dome light circuit if you want it to work.
