2001 O/D

Started having a problem with O/D light. Starts off blinking 4 times then 7 times and repeats for about 1 minute or so then stays solid. Ideas? I`m sure its throwing codes but no idea what ones. Thanks

IIRC that's a trans DTC that can be either read with more sophisticated scanners---the average hand-held ones can't do that.

I also believe the sequence and timing of the flashes is meaningful---I'd post this same question in the transmission forums too.

I've never seen an OD light flash a code. The software doesn't support that. I have no idea why it would do that.

There probably is a code stored. As JWA said it takes a higher end scan tool to read those codes. The auto parts stores that read codes free CANNOT read these codes.

Hey Hanklin. If it's the airbag light, a quick search turned this up:

It also has a link to a site off the original youtube page where you can look up codes. but based on comments may be bad. I found this list of codes and your 47 code is the passenger pretensioner.

http://www.airbagsolutions.com/docs/codes/f/es.pdf

Good luck,
George

You are thinking the trans caused the airbag light to flash? Really?

The airbag light means something is wrong with the airbag system. It has NOTHING to do with the transmission. Whoever told you that should stick to what they know. They don't know these vehicles.

I don't know much of anything about the airbag system other than the flashing light means there is a problem.

If there is a transmission problem the OD OFF light will flash.

Glad to help. I have been able to solve a TON of tough questions about vehicle problems just doing Internet searches. At the age of 61, I remember hitting the stacks at the Detroit Public Library to find service manuals for rare cars that I've owned.

The Internet has enabled me to do stuff like shorting a connector under the dash of an Acura TL2.5 that I used to own with a paper clip when the ABS light came on, order the left rear wheel sensor from Rock Auto for 30% of the dealer price, and screw the darn thing on in 15 minutes. Same kind of 2-digit number code as yours. Turned it into a $50 job instead of the $400 the dealer would have charged.

Also solved a dead dash gauge issue on my late FIL's Grand Marquis when I was enlisted to sell it--Ford shift lever wiring tends to short out the OD switch at the column and blow a fuse that takes out the dash.

And the best analysis was a control box for the throttle secondary cable on my wife's '98 Sable Duratec. Instead of a $300 control box and dealer labor on top of that, I fixed it with a $3 bicycle brake cable and a soldering iron to build a new actuating cable. (I am a bicyclist and old drag/racer who used to be really good with carb modifications, etc.)

Good luck,
George
