jan 03 build 6.0 help
Any guys with early 03 built engines have any advice for me. I have looked for hours through old posts as to what to do with the dreaded egr. My engine has 80,000 miles on it and I am looking at doing something with the egr before it goes bad.
what is the best way
1. Unplug egr valve
2. block off plate
3. egr delete kit (which one do you like)
4. after market egr cooler fix (ie bulletproof egr cooler)
I never plan on retuning for higher hp which I think expedites egr problems, looking for longevity of engine. I also live in rural nebraska so i doubt we will have any sort of emissions testing any time soon.

I like the IPR delete and up-pipe. It's a bit more expensive but way less, IMHO, likely to wiggle loose and leak. The replacement up-pipe is much better quality also. I'm sure there are cheaper but I like quality if I can afford it. If you haven't done the exhaust then Magnaflow or MBRP are excellent quality and good price if you shop. You'll need stainless. 3.5" downpipe to 4" back is GREAT for a stock truck. No mods or tuner needed either. Leave the EGR valve in place and hooked up electrically since it's moot anyway but the circuit needs to be connected.

I dont know for sure what shape the oil cooler is in. Im looking at getting a scanguageII so i can check the operating oil temps. If i had to guess I would say the oil cooler is in good shape. I am the third owner of this engine, its in an excursion that the original owner loved but wife made him trade in at 16k miles cause it was to big and made the garage smell. 2nd owner also took care of vehicle as far as i could tell he had it from 16k-75k. Regular oil changes with full synthetic, hot shots additive. So I don't know for sure but it appears to have been taken care of and kind of babied. Neither did any towing or hp mods either.
