Hi

I have a buddy that has a 1998 f150 4x4 with 4.6l and 332836 km on it. It will go in to reverse but will not go in to drive at all. Is his transmission shot? Or is there anyway to test it to find out what the problem is. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check fluid level as per owner's manual.

If the fluid level is correct and there is no forward engagement in any of the forward gear shifter positions, the transmission has failed internally.

 

I agree with the above poster. Just had the same thing happen in a 99 F 150.

 

I agree with the above posters. Just a quick question, to clarify.
Does the shifter go into "Drive" physically? And there is just no forward transmission action?
I would just suggest eliminating the possibility of linkage/cable problems.
