i just did this Brad.im telly ya though,it was no easy feat trying to explain how a ford truck key works to the guys who run those machines.it's like they don't want to listen.
i finally was able to get through to someone though at a local hardware store! some dude iv not seen before in this one.he actually listened to me for 30 seconds and though was a bit skeptical......he attempted it.that's all it took.now i have keys that fit both,the oem key door locks and the replacement ignition.

it's not complicated.so im not sure why no one wanted to hear it lol.
the first half of the key is for the doors and the low part for the ignition (or was it visa versa? i just did it last month and already forget which it is) anyway,so all they need to do is set and match the cutting machine to match one section of the key you want,then use the other key to setup their machine to cut the other part,using the other key that fits the other lock,but they cut on the same new key.it's easy as pie........but man it's not easy to explain to people.with the keys in hand it's easy to explain of course,but you need someone who isn't stubborn to just listen for a few seconds to explain and hopefully get someone willing to try it.when they do,they understand how simple it is lol.

edit,oh wait.i know how i was finally able to get it through to someone.this is how it went;
you know how the replacement ignition keys come blank right? (either up top or down bottom.whichever way it is.) i think it's blank up top.meaning it wont do anything for the doors.i showed him this key and my old key and said,can you match both to one key?
i think i started even more basic lol.i think i said,see this blank spot in this replacement key? (where it could be cut to fit to work the doors) i said if you can match up this old key's upper section here and cut into this blank spot it will work my oem doors too..........then i had him! i said great; now match this (now completed one) with 2 more full ones just like it please.

So you had the guy rekey the ignition cylinder so one key will both open the door and start the truck, instead of the 2 different key setup? I'm fairly sure my 89 has an oval headed key for the glove box and door and a rectangular headed key for the ignition. Didn't know this was possible.

This will only work on the 92 or newer trucks
On the 91 and older trucks,The round headed key has the shaft split to the left, square headed key has the shaft split to the right.
You can't fit a door key in the ignition, nor the ignition key in a door

Yeah well the OP asked about rekeying the lock cylinder, not recutting keys. The problem with the recutting of the keys is now you gotta know which way to orient the key, i.e., which sides goes up. I'd rather rekey the lock cylinder. I do my own with a kit I bought on eBay. Now my 91 F150, my 91 Bronco, and my 74 F350 all take the same ignition key. The 91s also have the same door key (the ignition key opens the door on the 74).
