P0401

I am getting the P0401 code on my 2001 E250 with the 5.4L engine. I removed the doghouse and discovered that one of the hoses is missing and the other one was just laying on the engine. The shop just replaced the DPFE 2 days ago. I purchased replacement hoses but I have a couple of questions. Which hose goes where and why would they blow off? I am guessing that if the are crossed that might be the answer. Any suggestions?

I have a 2000 Ford Contour V6 that blew off the DPFE hose(s) repeatedly. If I remember correctly it was usually after heavy throttle use age.

Turned out the catalytic converter was physically bad internally and caused tremendous back pressure in the exhaust system. The hose(s) of the DPFE directly link to the exhaust system. (Therefore: make sure you don't use cheap replacement hose.)

I smashed its internals and collected the dust and small pieces and took it to a scrap place and got good cash for it.

Also the car was fixed. (Except that it's tailpipe emissions smell like a car from the 70's... And the Check Engine light. )
