Ok so with age we are starting to see this code more and more and I figured it was common enough to do a video on just what it is all about. It has to do with the Egr throttle plate sticking in its bore and upon the sweep the pcm does it does no return to the full open position. In the video I show you exactly why it is flagging that dtc and how to replace the egr throttle plate with a few tips.

Does this issue typically throw a check engine light or green wrench light or both?

 

It could do both since it is emissions and powertrain related.

 

I have only seen the check engine light when they come in.

I have looked everywhere and I can't find a part number or even anyone to carry this part, maybe I'm doing something wrong. Could you tell me the proper name for this and if possible a part number please and thank.

 

 

that's what I'm thinking, I've called all the parts store local in south Florida and no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.
I call the stealership and see what they say.

Thanks for the helpful video. We had an intermittent green wrench light and scanned just the P0488 code. We replaced the throttle body (8C3Z-9E937-A) and gasket (8C3Z-9J559-A), cleared the codes and everything has been running smooth for the last 500 miles..

The hardest part was finding a shop that could read the P0488 code. We tried our basic OBD 2 scanner, AutoZone, and even the Ford dealership and they could not find any codes.
