Help on Mercury rear axle
Our 49 M68 has had the rear axle changed by the previous owner, so that makes it easier to get rid of the widowmaker rims. We are going to redo the brakes on the truck so I am sourcing wheel cylinders. I, however, have been unable to identify what vehicle the rear axle came from, so I can't find a part match. The axle has a round 10 bolt rear inspection cover and has an 8x6.5 bolt pattern on the wheels. I have searched some differential identification charts on the internet and have searched some FTE threads but can't find the info I need. I was hoping someone on here might be able to recognize it. I was hoping it was a Dana 60 but the charts say no. It has rear shock mounts welded on it so I thought it must be from the 50's or 60's. I have searched RockAuto and Napa sights for the wheel cylinders from 3/4 tons and one tons but none look like the cylinders from this axle. They are 1 3/8 inch bore and have R-6 and 6460072 stamped on them. The only stamp on the axle is the number 3682726. Maybe it is not even a ford axle. Here is a couple of pictures. Any help would be appreciated.
