Licensed, Insured, and on the Road!!

Well, I hit my goal. I bought the truck, in pieces, the day before the 2012 Superbowl. My goal was to have it on the road by Superbowl 2014. I made it by less than a month, but I thought two years from this:

to this, was doing pretty well.

There are a lot of things I would do differently, but overall, I am happy with it. I have several things to keep me busy, like gas pedal issues, a carb that needs tuning, bed wood, etc. Luckily, none of them will keep me from making my trips into town.

The thing I was most happy about is that my son and I did everything ourselves, short of machine work (turning brake drums, honing kingpin bushings, etc) and 3 brake lines that, for the life of me, I could not get to take a straight flare. This was also my first attempt at bodywork and paint which, while not anywhere near the product most of you are capable of, I was quite happy with (especially since I am not a finish work person).

Basic specs are:289V8, C4, 9" Ford, speedway front disc kit, Toyota PS conversion, power brake conversion, Speedway wiring harness, all new brake lines/components, all new glass cut locally, Mojave heater, 275/60 front and 255/60 rear tires, and a lot more.

This site's members were, and will continue to be, an incredible help throughout the project.

While it still isn't done, and may never truly be, I had to share.

Thanks everyone,

Dave

I think its great that your able to drive it while you do the finish work. The best thing to me is that you and your Son did it together, you guys can be proud of your truck.

I think it looks great Dave!! Even the ball cap covering the license plate is clever. I really like that seat - what's that out of?

Nice job, Dave. So what if you'll never will awards at an ISCA show. You're out there driving it and having fun while others of us are still dreaming about someday.

Well done. Making your deadline puts you in a unique group on this forum. Many of us, myself included, have avoided setting a deadline, certainly for a complete build! Enjoy the ride.
