Done a little trading today and picked up this little jewel. Been looking for a pre-77 pickup for a while to make a rat rod out of. This one fell into my lap, so I took it. It's been officially named Clifford because it reminds me of Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Largely, I plan on leaving it the way it is with some subtle changes. Exterior I probably won't touch. Interior is a bit rough, but is unique the way it is, so I may clean up the inside and run with it.

Has had bucket seats put in it. Will likely find some nicer ones to put in it. Wanted to do a split bench, but really can't (see below).

The 3 speed shifter has been moved from the column to the floor, but not in the normal way. It's been set up with 2 shifters like a big truck. 1st and Reverse on the right shifter; 2nd and 3rd on the left shifter. The shifters are tucked in next to the driver seat, so this is why a split bench is out. I like it as it's unique and will probably put a couple of big long shifters on it reversed so they're facing forward so it'll be easier to shift.

The signal switch has gone out at some point and they added a toggle to each side of the column. One for right and one for left.

Blower motor is on a toggle, has a kill switch (why I don't know).

Fuel tank has been replaced with an in bed fuel cell.

Gauges do not work at all. I do not think they're hooked up.

Like to get the signals and gauges working properly again. However, I need to figure out a way to get a fuel gauge for the cell. Would like to have some sort of unique thing to mount in the cab (seen old hot rod with beer bottle fuel gauges that I liked).

All in all, I totally dig this thing. Just thought I'd share.

I dig that truck too. You can get senders for that cell from Jazz. I think Summit sells them as well.

 

Sounds like some interesting engineering went into this truck.........shifters and turn signals sound "unique"......A long bed flareside isnt a common truck, it stands out! If you only like factory original and pristine, its probably not your thing. Honestly, it looks like it will be FUN, just expect that it will keep you guessing, cause its a one-off truck

The only thing I'd have a hard time living with is the painted grille and headlight doors, but that's me. Still fun either way!

 

Sweet looking truck I like the flareside beds on these trucks. Being a 4x4 makes it all the better. Sounds like you got a electrical mess to clean up there always fun. Good luck and keep updating with pics

 

Thanks all. I guess it is a long bed. I've been calling it a short bed as it seems small to me compared to the rest of the truck. As for the electrical, I'm going to try to get as much as I can working properly, but it has character as it sits, so I may try to keep up with the character.

Someone recovered the dash pretty shoddily, so I think that'll be one of the first things to go. I'm thinking all metal with be quite alright.

 

If it was red originally and considering the front step bumper, this could have been a "first call" or regional airport fire truck.

A member of FTE's SoCal chapter has a very similar 1966 F100 w/the 8' Flareside bed, and it was a 'first call' fire truck originally.

 

Honestly, the more I'm looking at it, I'm not sure what this frankentruck is. The VIN and title show it as a 2wd F100 with a 360. I'm wondering if someone hasn't swapped this body onto this frame in a prior restoration?

 

compare the vin on the door tag with the one on the frame to see if they match. If you look at the pic of my truck you will see the difference in the long and short flare side beds.

 

First 4 digits of the VIN / FoMoCo used the Y VIN engine code for 1966/67 352, 1968/76 360.

1967: F10Y = F100 2WD 352 / F26Y = F250 4WD 352.

1968/72: F10Y = F100 2WD 360 / F26Y = F250 4WD 360.

 

Mines a 69. F10Y is what my vin shows. Anywhere I can look on the frame to see a Vin or anything that may indicate if it was swapped to a highboy chassis?

 

The VIN on the Warranty Plate is known as the Warranty Number, it's not used for title or registration purposes, as it's too easy to change.

Only the hidden VIN stamped atop the right (passenger) side frame rail is used for title/registration.

1963/79: Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch.

People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
