From a source, 75 through 88 blocks are interchangeable.

fixed it by adjusting the idle, run fine until i traded it off, still see it going around town

The main difference in blocks are: up to 87 have larger main journals, 95+ use oil pump driven directly off the timing belt.
Some early EFI blocks have the fuel pump hole covered with a bolt on plate, others didn't get the hole machined out. That would be the only item that *could* affect your plan.
