Question 460 as a daily driver?how many mpg?

hey guys I can get a sweet deal on a 97 hd 4 wheel drive auto but the only thing is it has a big block 460.I know the mpg are not great but was wondering what the mpg would be and if I should even consider it for a daily driver at all?the body is in good shape but the truck has some rust under it on the frame that i would have to sand off in the spring and needs a muffler.would you guys use a 460 for a daily driver or no?I do alot of driving around town during the week days just wondering if any of you use a 460 as a daily driver and how many miles you put on a week and mpg your getting?it wont be used for towing at all just driving.thanks any info will help

460 powered trucks are like cigarette boats, if you gotta ask about fuel milage you can't afford it.

Mine is a daily driver. Reg cab 4wd with 5spd. Usually see 8 in town & 13 highway. Usually do 200 miled a week. Do you need a 3/4 ton truck? If it's cheap enough buy it and try it out, can always sell it and make a few bucks. It will get spendy for gas if your running around town in it constantly. Most of my driving is highway.

thanks im not new to the form I was here a few years ago when I had a 95 f 250 with a 351w but I sold it and been away.lol I cant afford it?I dont think any of us are made of money here right?lol anyway ya 8mpg with a 5 speed stick shift wow so auto would be 7 mpg then .I know what you mean i know it wont be great im just tryig to see what a 460 gets in mpg compared to a 351w but no 351 for sale around here at all.I guess i could always sell it 4 or 5 months down the road if i dont like it like you say its not that cheap he wants $4,500 for it but he cant sell it i ws going to offer $3,500 and see what he says the body is real nice on it.my buddy told me if i buy the 250 with the 460 i can race it cause its got ***** lol.

Unless you're going to be pulling or hauling with it every day (farming, construction, etc) I'd pass on it. Single digit mpg in a time where gas is $3.30+ a gallon doesn't make sense for an empty daily driver. If you want fast then get a Lightning or Mustang. Even with a 351 mine stays parked unless I need to pull or haul something, driving it every day with a 64 mile commute would be foolish.

yeah I know what you mean but when i had my 95 250 with a 351 it was a daily driver but it wanst that bad on gas at least not to me since i been driving trucks for 27 years.I really dont want fast i just need a truck for things I do.dont really like rangers i test drove a few used ones they are to tiny for me and the 90s f 150 are kinda small to the f 250 is perfect for me at least.guess ill look a little longer maybe a 351 250 will pop up sooner or later.thanks all

You are not going to save a lot with a 351 in it. A sweet deal on a 460 or a regular price on a 351 is going to equal zero savings. Or depending on repairs needed...there goes any savings so shop carefully.

Never had a 150 but I believe the cabs and body are the same as 250 or 350. Might sit a little lower but the rest is the same.

Cabs are the same from F150-F350 so a F150 will do you just fine

your daily driver should be 30-40 mpg.mine is.sure i could have driven to the hiking trail this morning with a truck, but why since my snow shoes fit just fine in the trunk of a little car?
this way,you don't need to worry about what the pickup gets when you need it and you've got some $ left for more important things in life.........like truck mods!

My 1990 f250 4x4 460 REG cab gets 10 mpg with the E4OD. Gas is like $3.58 in CA.

I've owned several 460s, different configurations. Best I ever got was 10 MPG. Usually much worse. If you don't do much driving and the price is right, go for it.
