Help! 1948 f1 with 1951 bed??
#16
Hi all!! New to the forum and looking for a little advice? Any ideas!!
Building a 48 f1 for my daughter. Problem is I have a 51 (smooth) looking bed with 48 fenders. Looking for options? Trying to save a buck...
1. Cut fenders and running boards to fit. (Cheap)
2. Buy later fenders to fit bed. (Will they line up with running boards?,sell 48 steel fenders)
3. Buy 48 bed.($$$$)
I live in Orange County CA. So used parts aren't readily available.

Whiz up the 57 freeway, get off at Arrow Highway...then go straight ahead on West Bonita Avenue for about a mile.
I've lived here in LA LA Land for almost 70 years, never had a problem finding used parts for Fords. More Ford trucks were sold new in CA than in any other state...except TX
More local repro parts sources: Blue Oval Truck Parts located in Anaheim, The Truck and Car Shop in Orange.
3rd week of June, F100 Western Nationals truck show held at Canyon RV Park, part of the Featherly Park complex, north of the 91 freeway in Anaheim.
The same group that sponsors this show (Pickups Limited of Orange County) has also put on swap meets in the same location.

Sorry for being a newbie! I updated my profile I live in Socal. I appreciate all of your help!! Thanks for the local info ND! I am unable to return emails to some of you as of yet. I will give you a call 51PM I will be going to Nocal early next month. It looks like my best bet is to just bite the bullet and get a set of 50-52 rear fenders. The box and my 48 rear fenders are in very good shape! I'm still open to all options! (Either bed or fenders!) Buy or Trade ! This is my setup for my daughter so far!
1948 ford f1

Nostalgic ac/heat
Power disk/drum
No limit power rack and pinion
Total rewire 12 volt
Just finished 3point seat belts and alarm. Just waiting for seat cover (and waiting and waiting) and inside will be done.
Again thanks to you all!! And if you have any ideas let me know!!! Steve

But we'd rather see them right here in your posts. Here's one way to add pics to a post:
Go to Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.
While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg
Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).
When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).
Your pic will be placed in the post.
Hope that helps.

Hello and another welcome from Northern California. You could make some filler panels and use your current 51-52 fenders onto your 48-50 bed sides. Or...just wait it out and get some of the early fenders when they show up. If you want to speed up that process, just paint the ones that you have...right after that some new one will find you!!
It's cool that your daughter likes classic trucks.....is this a father-daughter project?

OD,
My problem is reversed I have 48 fenders with a later flat side bed. If I come up with a filler for the fenders I will have to drill some new stud holes given the originals aren't long enough and I want to keep them just in case. My daughter has always loved older trucks 40's and I build my son. 69 Mustang fastback so I gave here the option and she took it! This is a solo build given her never ending schedule, but both her and mom will be put to work when the sanding starts!!
Thanks for the welcome Steve

Considering you apparently have both a good bed box and good 48-50 rear fenders, you seriously need to maybe consider going the other way and get at least those two side panels or the whole three-sided box for a 48-50 truck. Did you check with Northern Classic Trucks? When you start pricing those two fenders (especially if you go with steel), you might be surprised to find that replacing the bed is gonna be about the same money, or just slightly more expensive. Then you'll have the correct bed for a 48-50 truck. Plus you could sell your 51-52 smooth sided bed.

48 F1...50 bed..????
Hello all, got a question about my F1. Dad bought this truck in 1972, never did anything to it. But bought it with title claiming a 1950 F1. I recently have started a restoration. The tag #'s on firewall read its a 48, also same in glove box tag. The biggie is the stamped #'s on frame, all match, claiming 48.
But the 6'1/2" bed has smooth walls all around, and wood bed. By what I've been reading a 48 has bumps on bed panels and a metal floor.
My question is , what's going on?
Is it a 48 frame and cab with a 50+ bed on it? .....HELP.
Thanks for any ...HELP.

48 F1...50 bed..????
Hers some pics. When dad bought the truck it all matched..the paint.
But they could have swapped beds so they could call it a 50. A guy i talked with said his grandpa worked at a ford dealership and if one didn't sell right away they would title it the year it sold. That's why its titled 50, but the bed has me confused. Oh, one more thing to prove it was a 48 or early 50 is its a floor shift. But anyway I just need to figure this bed out.
Thanks
48 or 50...???
