I can average 18-19 if I make a conscious effort to do so. 50/50 highway city driving. 16-17 is realistic based on my driving style. I love the sound of the 5.0 when getting on the highway. Lol

Hi all! I have to ask, what the !@$#^ am I doing wrong with my truck? 2011 super-cab 6.5ft bed 4x4 with a 5.0.....I barely get 14mpg with 60% highway and 40% city. I do have P285/65R17 Cooper AT3 tires on which are bigger than stock but still road friendly. The speed limit in my area is 70mph so I typically do 70 to 75 occasionally 80. The truck coming up on 95,000 miles so spark plugs, oil change, trans flush, coolant flush will be done soon. When I first got the truck I was getting 19 to 21 mpg with a 50/50 mix of highway and city driving at that time. Any help to increase my mpg by 2 or 3 mpg would be greatly appreciated!!
I am thinking of getting a tuner, air intake kit and possibly getting MSD coils for the spark plugs. Hoping these changes will help with the mpg but I am open to other opinions and suggestions.
Thanks All!!

I've got 48k miles on my 2012 FX2 Supercrew 5.0 with 3.55 axle and stock 18" tires. The lifetime average is 16.1 and I'm consistently getting 15.9 on each tank lately. 80% of my driving is stop n go city driving.
I took it on a 1,800 mile round trip from North Louisiana to Sanibel, FL last summer and averaged 20.3 mpg. I think the best highway mileage I got on that trip was 21.1 mpg.

I just got back from a 2,642.2 mile trip across 9 states & 3 time zones over 10 days. About half the trip interstate and half old US 66. I towed my 3,200 (fully loaded) pop-up camper. For mileage, I averaged 14.6 at the worst, and got 15.4 as the best fuel mileage (per the computer in the truck); I would reset the MPG at every fill up. On the interstate, the cruise was set at 75. I got my best mileage during interstate travel at 75 mph rather than sightseeing on US 66.
Incidentally, there is still lots to see and do on US 66; I highly recommend getting off the interstate and seeing parts of Old Americana.
I only have the basic trip computer; but here are the results of the trip.

Honestly don't really pay much attention to the mileage these days. These numbers are low and some of it can be attributed to the lift and tires but mostly it's a reflection of short trips mainly to and from work it's 20 miles round trip with a brief convience store stop both ways.I'll be taking a decent road trip here soon up to lake Powell and will have some open road #s soon for everyone's enjoyment

Still don't really give a hoot about mpg these days with current prices. This is from a run up north last weekend to Flagstaff AZ. Zero complaints on this truck as it nears 50k miles...I'm actually getting kind of attached to it, the thought of something else is like meh. Maybe it's the color or whatever but since the lift and tires/wheels this truck is a head turner. Kinda like being a rockstar... rock on fellow Ford drivers

Good friend of mine,'16 XL 2.7EB standard cab 8ft, 2wd, tow package and IIRC 3.31 rear.
He said this was a 30 mile each way trip with 35, 45 and 50 mph posted limits. He's an average driver accelerating and usually does 5+ over.
Most of the time around town he says is 25+. He's outside Phoenix.

This is my 3rd or 4th reply/update to this thread as my truck ages. 99,000 miles on the clock now. It crept over 19.3 for a while and has slipped backward just a bit to 19.25mpg. 2012 157" wb Lariat SuperCrew 5.0 with a 3.55 rear. IF gas has averaged $2.50 a gallon during it's 99,000 miles that's $12,865 worth of 87 octane.

To think I thought about buying a Tacoma at one point ... fortunately I came to my senses. I'd say I still really like this truck as it sits and still feel a sense of attachment to it when considering something else ( especially paying for something else ) it's needed a few fixes prior to 100k miles which has been disappointing but nonetheless it's been a pleasure to drive the last 5 1/2 years
