Need some help/advice on a few things

In order to remain married my F5 project is sitting in a factory parking lot about 20 miles from my house. We usually go down on Saturday mornings to work on it. I installed a 1950 6 that "ran when removed" when I bought it. We got the engine started and it ran great. Anyway this weekend we are replacing the plugs, oil and reconnecting the drive shaft. Here are my questions:

NGK - Autolite or Champion plugs? (a study of this topic tended toward the first two)

How long are the 1/4" diameter bolts that connect the fan and pulley to the water pump hub?

Muffler?

Thanks in advance

I worked as a Ford mechanic , back in the early 70's . For some reason I always had better luck with autolite or motocraft plugs . Champions just didn't seem to work as well . With that said , I have used Champions it all kinds of motors and never had a real problem . But for my Fords I avoid them .

I use Autolites without any issues.

I've gone with Champions but I don't think it really matters. I find it funny that different people have different experiences with different products. I wonder why that is.

Long enough to hold the fan and pulley together. The parts catalog I have says they're 12-32X1-1/6", with lock washers.

Muffler?
F-5 is a model T, take this drawing with you to a parts store and have them match something close. If you go to a McParts store you might have a challenge unless you happen to get lucky and get a counter guy willing to spend 10 minutes going through a paper catalog.

With those measurements you can buy $25 glasspacks all day long and with full exhaust they don't sound bad. Just saying because you can always get glasspacks from any chain store or Summit and you don't have to rely on a person that can only use the computer for finding parts.

I wouldn't count on the exhaust pipes into / out of the muffler still being original size, either, measure first. In 60 years it's very likely it has been to a muffler shop that just bent up a system using the closest size.

Great point Ross, his best option is to measure for what he has/needs and go from there.

I have had no luck with champion plugs, seems they would get fouled in any engine I had. AC, motorcraft, NGK work for me, especially the platnum tipped.

Thanks and question for Bob

This forum is the best. Bob I show the bolt part number as 20347-S for 1950 Flat 6 (H). The only reason I would ask again such a simple question is that I am remote from the truck and there are 0 hardware stores/auto stores around it so I like to bring the right stuff with me.

Thanks again.

I'm not at my computer and can't access my catalog to check. I did Google the number and came up with a 5/16-24,X 3/3" bolt for a Thunderbird. Some else should be able to verify if I don't get back sooner.

My chassis parts catalog says 20347-S is 5/16"-24x3/4 hex head bolt.

20347-S8 = 5/16" - 24 x 3/4" long.

Parts catalog pics may not show the complete suffix on standard aka hardware parts.

The text section is required to verify if it's the complete part number...or not.

I looked at the wrong drawing. The bolt I posted is for a V8.

I bought Autolite 216 plugs instead of Champion H-10 after reading multiple recommendations on FTE. They work great for me.
