ok I did a quick hook up of the new coax and old antenna without mounting and routing the cable. Tremendous improvement but still got some engine noise but it at least doesn't cancel out all the signals on every channel. I actually seem to pick up more chatter on several channels so that's a big improvement. I'm gonna call it good for now. Might go back and filter the alternator and ignition switch in the future or buy a new radio that has noise blocker/automatic noise limiter on it and I'd say it will clean up even further.

Excellent! Since the noise was reduced with the addition of the new cable, I'd say you're on the right track. Do you have a CB shop in your area? If you're in Idaho, I can point in the direction of a highly recommended CB shop in the Boise area.

I'm in southwest va and there is atlantic coast radio on I81 in wytheville. I'm sure they could line me out but i think I'm good for the RRE convoy at least!

Sounds good. The CB shops of my high school days (mid- to late-70s) are disappearing. Those shop owners have an extensive knowledge base. They can do things with CB maintenance and performance that borders on magic, AFAIC. The CB shops are definite "use it or lose it" business. I support them whenever I can, even it's just dropping by to see what they have on their shelves. Enjoy the convoy.

If you have a truck stop near I would check with them. They usually have cb stuff for sale and may have or know some one near that works on cb's. There is quite a bjit on knowledge needed to get one dialed in properly.
