Torque Pork (as in bacon)

Yet another chapter begins in the "Stink N Rich" saga - the monitoring phase. I have AE and it's a fantastic tool when there's a problem, but it sucks at the mundane daily-driving stuff. Why? I don't want to set up the carputer (with all the cables, booting, space hogging, etc...) every time I drive to work. The answer? Tablet, Bluetooth OBDII adaptor, and apps. This thread is dedicated to using Torque to talk to the 7.3L, not troubleshooting the truck or using other apps or scan tools. I have a Nexus 7 with Kit Kat, so my experience will be limited to that hardware and operating system. The bulk of what I share here should apply to whatever tablet/pad/phone and operating system you have.

{craking knuckles} Let's start with corralling your 7.3L PIDs:

Does anybody see anything on that last screen that would sway me to try Torque out?

Ok tugly I know I'm jumping the gun here but any idea how I can get this thing to read ℉ instead of ℃? FIPW also comes up with a goofy long stupid number that doesnt make any sense to me.

Try this equation for FIPW: (((A*256)+B)*8)/1000.

I used ((A*256)+B)*.008, but it's the same thing.

What are you trying to change to Farenhe... Farenhi... the non-metric temperature thingy?

FIPW defaults to microseconds rather than milliseconds. You can convert it in the equation or just move the decimal three places to the left in your head

Corrected formula for FIPW in ms: ((A*256)+B)*8/1000

Ok. It was originally set to (((A*256)+B)*8)/100 not (((A*256)+B)*8)/1000. Thanks guys and tugly for opening this thread. Water temp is set in ℃ and not ℉ though I can change from c to f in my head fairly quick it'd be nice not to have to do all that while I'm trying to concentrate on the other 1000 things going on while I'm driving.

I have been using my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and a BT dongle from Amazon.

The dongle seems to kill my truck. At first it prevented my truck from starting and then when I try to pull codes it will kill my truck. Is that normal?

It pulls PIDs just fine.

I asked this in another thread and did not get a response so I thought I would try again. What can u monitor on our trucks using the Torque app? I am in the same boat as Rich I dont want to set the puter up all the time.

Trey. Yes it's normal if you're trying to get codes for it to kill the truck. The truck shouldn't be running while you're trying to do this anyways.

Jason. The app can read just about anything that you nerd it to read. It can't change anything like ae can but at least you'll be able to monitor what's going on.

Ok so my question is how did you get your coolant temp to be displayed? Mine always flashes -40*....Although this has been my only mishap using the app.

Also will this app read DTC's stored in the pcm? I had a SES the other day and tried reading it and got the 'no stored codes" message.

I think Rich will come on to tell you the PCM doesn't actually measure coolant temp, it measures oil temp and makes up a value.
