Hydroboost in a Manual

Seems like I've never seen a hydroboost thread for anything but trucks with autos. Is it something that can be done in a manual? Have I just missed those threads? Or maybe it isn't needed due to the more selective down shift? Learn me please...

Why would you think it would be any different?

The only thing I'd think to be different in the whole conversion would be using a manual pedal assembly from a FSD as opposed to the auto. But having not seen any threads where it was done I didn't know if I'd missed something or if there may be another existing reason not to hydroboost a handshaker.

I just finished putting a hydroboost in my '94 with a ZF5. I used a unit from a Super Duty. Two things I can tell you about it.

1. Don't ever use a Super Duty set up. It's not worth the hassle.
2. I will ALWAYS prefer hydroboost brakes over vacuum. Even on a gasser engine. The boost pressure is instant.

Yeah. The vacuum system is kind of irritating. I'd heard the SD parts are a PITA to use. Did you just get the clutch/brake pedal box from a F Superduty or what?

Nope. The SD mounting plate is different than the OBS firewall, so I had to make my own mount. That ended up with me having to cut and shorten the pushrod (welded and reinforced, of course). Only good thing about it is that the SD HB didn't require me to move anything on my brake pedal. Since I had to make my own mount, I lined it up with the pedal and went from there.

It can be done and my F super duty came with it factory. I'd find one out of a 92-97 FSD with pedal assembly. If u are running drum brakes you will need to use your stock master and cut the holes for the bolts into slot. The Fsd master will cause the back drums to look up. Also the vac and hydro pedals are different.

There's a few mentions of it in some of the PSN hydro post threads and maybe the sticky on PSA. Apparently you have to use the stock master and mod it to fit the hydrboost unit or use the FSD master which doesn't need modded but then use some valve that doesn't allow as much pressure to reach the drums UNLESS you did a rear disc conversion too.
