Does your fuel drain valve leak at ****?

Hey guys, just wondering if your fuel drain valve leaks at the **** when you are draining for water? I opened mine yesterday to drain it for the first time and fuel went EVERYWHERE!! Unlike the 6.4 that I was able to use a bottle to capture the fuel in, my 6.7 leaks around the **** and comes out the drain port. After some very colorful words, I got it drained and then closed. Just wondering if you guys ran into this too, or is mine defective. I mean, why put a drain port on it if it is going to come out around the know and soak you.

Edit. I just went and looked at the video from the thread "those pesky filters" and it looks like that one leaks like mine too..

Yep mine leaks all over when I go to check for water. Kind of a stupid design.

Mine will leak if I twist it out too far. So I learned to have a little patience and drain now at a slower rate.

mine does the same thing. Some things are better about this system but that is not one of them.

Thanks for the reassurance that the valve is ok. Must have been designed by the same guy that put the damn wiring harness next to the 6.4s lower filter.

This is the ticket, but you can turn it far enough without leaking that it will drain at full rate. I usually turn it until fuel starts to flow good and then another half to full turn. If you turn it out too far, it compromises the seal and allows it to leak around the unspeakable word that this forum thinks is vulgar and feels the need to suppress.

Yeah, this could be better but I can live with it based on how easy it is to change these filters.
The manual states to loosen until you see the o-ring which if we see the o-ring, then it's going to break the seal.
I loosen it until I see the first drip or two then it doesn't take much to correct it.

Stupid design.

**** on the inside, difficult to get a grip without fuel dripping on your hands etc.

Put the **** to to the rear, angle it up, double seal, washer and o-ring and we should have a simple clean way to drain-check the fuel.

Makes you wonder how that ever gets through the design phase, I'm mean it's not that tough!

I gotta wonder if the guys complaining about this have ever taken a fuel bath trying to drain the water separator on a 6.0?

What's the big deal, it's a diesel. If your afraid of getting your hands dirty run by the dealership and have them drain a little fuel and pay the lady.

If you are complaining about the drain on the 6.7 maybe your a little spoiled by having never owning anything other than the 6.7. I keep a couple of latex gloves in my tool box and drain the filter every couple of weeks. I don't get in a rush, I don't get wet, I don't make a mess and I sure don't bitch about doing a little hands on preventive maintenance.

If this is the worst thing in your life to complain about, I would say you have a pretty darn sweet life going for you.

Stepping down from my soap box not....please continue!!

NO ONE is complaining about doing preventative maintenance on anything! It is the first time I have drained the 6.7s and was not expecting that and just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with the valve. I have driven diesels exclusively since '86 and have done all preventative maintenance on my vehicles my entire driving life and know my way around them. Plus, I thought that was what this forum was for was to ask questions. What an *** !
