1953 With 215 CID Overhead Valve

Was just wondering how many here have a 1953 with the 215 six cylinder? Or how many with the flattie? 1953 was a conversion year. Part year flathead. Part year OHV. Correct? How many of each that year? My Smokie has the 215 from factory.

Dunno if this qualifies, but I have a '53 F600 that came with the big (254 cube) flat six. I have a '52 215 sitting in my garage just waiting for a rebuild.....great little engines.

My 52 F-3 M-H is a 215 truck. Here's an engine progress picture. As for as the 53 is concerned, it's my understanding that the flathead V8 was continued in use throughout the 53 model year, then the OHV V8 was introduced in 54. Except in Canada where the flathead V8 was continued through the 54 model year. Stu

Wow Stu, that is a really nice looking 215. I have a couple observations though...
The oil fill cap is on backwards. The lower shield area is supposed to help scoop air into the cap and into the engine to help ventilate the crankcase.
Are you missing your fan? I see you have the bolts for it on the upper portion of your water pump. If you need it (and the crank pulley) I have extras.

I am looking forward to a build thread on this truck.

Good eye, yes it is. I wish all the issues I'm facing with this were as easy to fix. The fan is there, just not visible in that pic. Here's a different angle. I'll do a thread on it before it starts getting hidden by inner fenders, etc. Thanks. Stu

Thanks Joe.

38 coupe - that breather cap has now been flipped around. Thanks again. Stu
