Send a PM to firstrider. I think he's our resident heater expert.

The way the heater has the "locks" or "tabs" on it tells me that the hose slips over the heater ports, no adapters. Mid fifty does have plastic ones to go from 2 1/2 to 2" because '56 is different then '53-'55.

There were many different kinds, brands and designs of heaters installed in these old trucks and they were not always installed by dealers.
Here is the best shot I can get of the Ford heater in my '56. The defroster ducts for driver and passenger side both run from a manifold off the heater. The passenger side runs up behind the glove box. Probably have to pull the glove box to position the hose onto the defroster deflector.
Sorry for the not so good pictures. HTH

After further review I noticed that the hose slips inside the defrost duct . Not OEM .The hose should slip over the defrost duct . I think some one fabbed a home made locking device . Measure the size of the defrost ducts, get some defrost tubing that will slip over them & do it right .That is what the little triangular tabs are for on the defrost ducts to hold the defrost hose / tubing on ..
