Rolling in from BC, Canada.

Hi there! I've been looking at buying a diesel ford for quite some time now, researching carefully. I was set on a 7.3 Powerstroke 6 speed, but recently came across a great deal on a 2005 F250 FX4 6 Speed. After reading about the EGR Delete and APR Studs, I think it could for a great truck. Hopefully it isn't sold before the weekend, I'm headed to Revelstoke for some powder skiing! They've had 66cm (26") of snow in the past couple of days!

Cheers

Hi, Zip! I moved out to Revelstoke from Ontario last January... moved to Kamloops in July. So far, so good - absolutely love it out here.

Well, I pulled the trigger - bought my first diesel, a 2005 F250 FX4 6.0L 6 Speed with 373,000km - one owner, dealer maintained - I spoke with the mechanic before buying it and checked the OASIS report.

I'm glad to see the truck will take the same oil that I run in my car (Rotella T6 5w40). I'm hoping I can find someone that sells it by the bucket. I also plan to flush the coolant and refill - lots of folks are recommending CAT EC-1 ELC, I assume I can find that at the nearby heavy duty truck shops. After I replenish all the fluids and replace filters, I'll be looking to monitor fuel pressure and EOT/ECT. Probably go for the EGR delete as well, and depending on fuel pressure, possibly a blue spring upgrade.

The truck is quite a beast, I can't believe it gets nearly the same mileage as my tiny little Subaru

Kamloops is a nice area. I have family there. My uncle used to own the Mack/Volvo dealership there. He sold and now is in sales.

I want to do the flush and go to the ELC coolant as well. I have done the blue spring and added a coolant. Still considering the EGR delete. The biggest issue with that is what kit to get. They range so much in price. It would be nice to know what the difference is.

Remember use only the Motorcraft or Racor filters.

Thanks for the info! I'm a bit nervous, after driving the truck home yesterday (~250km) - I notice the coolant reservoir is empty. It wasn't running hot at any point. I will top it off with distilled water and see if it happens again. I will likely pick up EGR Valve gaskets and park the truck on a decline, pull out the valve and check for moisture. It looks like I may already have a clogged oil cooler!!

Speaking of EGR Kits, I see this one on eBay for $205 including the oil cooler and gaskets. Seems quite cheap compared to the bigger name brands, I wonder if there are any drawbacks.

I think I have seen that one. What I wonder about is the price is less than some of the EGR delete kits. Why is say a Sinister $200 more than this one and is only the EGR delete. Are we paying that much extra for the name or is it just that much better quality.

Indeed, the low price makes me skeptical. They might be Chinese manufactured out of plain steel, whereas the others are US made, polished, etc?

Did a bit more diagnostic, found I lost about 1.5L of coolant in the 250km drive -- when i started her cold today she blew quite a bit of white smoke. I'm praying it's only the EGR Cooler, looks like I should order the kit sooner than later - I won't be driving her until that gets sorted!

Well that kind of sucks. You going to do it yourself or take it to someone.

I'll attempt it myself, can't hurt to try. There seems to be enough documentation for it online.

That's true. You can get step by step instructions here or on Utube. I think it is more time consuming than hard. Pretty much all nuts and bolts. It probably takes more time to get to it than it does to do the delete and oil cooler. Maybe clean up the turbo while you have it off.

When I did my injectors I swear it took more time to get to them than to actually replace them.
