Swapping SBF for 240/300
Hi,
Quick question guys, 1967-1969 F350 with inline 6's (240 0R 300), do they sit on the same engine mounts as the F350's that were fitted with the V8's ? And, more importantly, in the same position in the chassis/crossmember?
I see that SOME of them were fitted with the 302 Windsor, (I am also assuming that was called the 'SBF' or Small Block Ford, as opposed to the larger engines?) I'm particularly interested in the 302 Windsor V8 and the 240/300 interchangeability ONLY.

if I remember correctly, the FE motors (I.E. 360/390, etc) share the same perches as the inline sixes. the Windsor blocks use different perches. take a look here. this site is FULL of useful info.

Engine mounts, 240/300-6 and V8 Windsor
Thanks for the link, interesting.
Have a project in hand where wish to use the 240/300 six INSTEAD of the V8 Windsor. Going from the photos, it MAY be possible to swap in a set of engine mount perches onto the existing crossmember. Photo's LOOK like the perches are rivetted on, suppose they could always be drilled out and replaced with hi-tensile bolts. Try and keep the actual height pretty near the same that way.
What I like about these forums, always someone who will throw up an alternative idea instead of delegating it to the "too hard basket"!

For the 240/300 swap, just unbolt the perches and slide to the next bolthole as the FE (352-67 only, 360, 390) and the 240/300 used thew same perches. For a Windsor/smallblock Ford family engine (221, 260, 289, 302, 351W), use the perches from a 302-equipped 69-79 truck and 77-79 351M/400 truck.

This is a common myth that is simply wrong. grade 8 bolts are harder than grade 5 but They are much higher strength as well. So even though the will break instead of stretch, it takes much more force to do so. A grade 8 will out do a grade 5 in any application.

the fasteners that go into the block are grade 5
I sell fasteners for a living a 3/8 grade 5 bolt shear capacity is over 7900 lbs while a grade 8 is over 9900 lbs

Took on board info about perches and grade 5 bolts. Dragged the old Ford 1967-68 home today, only casualty was one gate post realigned!
Still not absolutely sure just what I have got here. For a start, cannot find an engine number anywhere, some bod told me that the combination grille and 'bumpside' panels make it a 67-69 ?? Not even sure what size engine, either 240 or 300. Don't care! Hadn't been started in over 4 years, checked the oil, filled the leaking radiator, disconnected all the LPG crap, bypassed the fuel inlet line into a jerrycan, gave her a cupla drops down the throat and she fired first go! Bit ragged as can be expected, but she settled down smoothly, runs like a clock except for the mongrel LPG adapter under the carby, reckon she is sucking a bit of air. Has a Stromberg carby, wouldn't be a genuine Ford would it? Used to running them on Holdens.
But you think I can locate the engine number? Stood on my head, crawled all over the engine bay, looked up from on the ground, Mystery! All I could find was a "Gem" remanufactured sticker on the rocker cover. I'd hazard a guess and say the engine has been done up for dual fuel/LPG, hope so. Bloke told me that if you are standing at the front looking at the motor, the engine number COULD be stamped under the head on a vertical planed surface? If it is, must be hidden under the alternator bracket, suppose the only way to find out is remove the bracket itself. By the way, all tags, stickers etc have long gone, it looks like there was once a tag on the radiator support bracket, it's gone as well. Also told that there MAY have been a chassis number on Left hand chassis rail, near the front crossmember. Can't find it either. About the only thing I do know is that it has the NP435 box and a Dana 60 back end, twin I beam on front axle. SWB, 133 inch?? Or as near as I can make it. Depends who you ask, some dick told me that they were assembled at Fords Broadmeadows factory from imported CKD components. Makes sense I suppose. Cabin only held together by rust, wouldn't salvage much, yet mechanically she is all there. Bit heavy in the mouth (to steer) must be getting old, grew up on trucks with Armstrong Steering.

Found one set of numbers, on Left Hand side of block towards front, apprrox 2-3 inches above where sump bolts on, hidden behind plate where LPG shutoff valves located. Number reads as follows, but first number? letter? symbol? is unreadable, could be a "W" or a "K" then this string of numbers:- '931629 P'
