Looking to get a new to me Expy. We had an '06 Expy that had a fight with a telephone pole and the pole won. So we are now looking for another Expy. The '06 had back up sensors and the wife and I want the new Expy to have them. We like the camera but would rather have the sensors instead or with the camera. We are most looking at Expy's online right now and every option is not always listed. As far as I can tell the '07's have the same circles in the bumper like the '06 had. But '08's and up they are built in behind the bumper panel and are not visible. Do the back up sensors come with a certain package upgrade and what else comes in the package that might be easier to see on a picture of the Expy. Or is there a way to tell by the VIN number. Thanks for your time.

 

Good question. I can't tell from photos of the 08 EB that I just bought. I just looked up the convenience package on it, and it looks like you can tell from the other features on it. Now this is for the Eddie Bauer. I would think the Limited & King Ranch probably include it standard. And this is about the 08.

If you want me to snap a quick picture of what any of those other options look like/ where they are located, let me know.

 

The 07-11 had no sensors "on" the bumper. They used one large sensor mounted behind the bumper. Starting in 2012 they went back to individual sensors mounted on the rear bumper ( and optional on the front )
If you see the sensors mounted on the rear bumper of an 07 then they were probably dealer installed.

The best way to tell if it came factory with them is by a VIN breakdown, Ford also required that you ordered the convienience package, so if the version you are looking at has those features chances are it has the reverse sensors.

The reverse sensors came standard on Limiteds and King Ranch versions.

Also, the rear view camera wasn't available until 08.

Correct. The last year of the Eddie Bauer was 2010. The trim level was continued in 2011 as the "XLT Premium".

Also Do you guys know hot to tell them apart from 07-present? There easy for the 97-98, 99 , 00-02 03-04 05-06 they all have a slight change from exterior same goes for the navigator

 

Maybe I miss-understood RI-MATT, but, for the record, my 2011 Limited has the (4) sensors in the rear bumper factory installed. I just checked today after reading this a few days ago to see if they were just dummy plugs. They have sensors located and wired in each of the locations. So the 2011 Limited and I am sure the King Ranch will have the sensors showing in the rear bumper.

I do know the front bumper sensors were made available in 2012 as RI-MATT said.
