Seat Belt indicator

Before I begin I Know most of you are gonna wonder why do I even care about that stupid thing but I just wanna know for the sake of knowing why my Seat Belt Indicator is doing this.

Anyway, my seat belt lamp comes on for about 10 seconds when I turn the key on then goes off and doesnt come back on even if I dont hook the seatbelt up. It will go off sooner if i buckle the seat belt but it will not stay on longer than about those 10 sec if I leave it unbuckled, why is it doing this? Anyone else have this issue?

Mine does it too. Never really put much thought into it. I'm just glad it doesn't keep beeping non stop when I don't wear it like my car does.

On most cars there is a process to go through to turn that off. Normally involves a sequence of key on/off and buckling/unbuckling the seat belt. The owners manual normally has it in there.

many of the older vehicles are that way.... either buckle up and immediate shut-off or the dummy light has a timer feature. It was common setup because buckling up was not as enforced or emphasized as they are today. I personally hate seatbelts and will avoid wearing whenever possible. I hate the restriction, I move around tons to get constant visual from all angles when I drive. :shrugs:

Every vehicle my wife and I have owned since 1980 works this way. Is there some other way one would expect the seat belt reminder to work? They've worked this way since the mid '70s or so; the only exception was ONE model year, I wanna say it was 1974, when the feds mandated a seat belt / starter INTERLOCK, where the car wouldn't start without the driver's seat belt fastened. The only such safety mandate in recent memory that was repealed.

My wife's "07 Edge keeps dinging every couple minutes until you buckle up. Our trucks just light up the light when you start it up and goes out after certain time whether you buckle up or not.

LOL! that would drive me insane!
I would buckle the belt behind me then, when I drive those type vehicles... or... if it were for my own car, cut the buckle off from one in the junkyard and use it as a pacifier.

Oh it does! LOL! I wear my seat belt most of the time though. It does it if some one sits in the pass seat too. There are pressure sensors in the seat so it knows if someone sits in it, so it dings if they don't buckle up too! LOL!

Those pressure sensors can be anoying. If you put something in the front seat that is heavy it will think theres a person in the seat and it will start "dinging" at ya
